Week 6 – Buoyant Boats Part 1

So this week wasn’t too special. We reviewed at the beginning of class and the students got right to making foil boats. However, this time they were going to compete for bonus marks. This time we outlined the revision process a bit more clearly and the students understood. It was really hard for them to “remake” their boats as they didn’t think they needed too. Results were good and most of the students understood the concept of buoyancy.

Next week we model controlled buoyancy with a make-shift submarine. This extends the thinking buoyancy and floating objects.

I stepped in to assist in counting the washer weights. Can you see who’s winning?
