Week 4 – Model Boat

Students will make a model boat using foam or clay. The boat should resemble their favorite boat found at the naval museum, but if the difficulty is too hard, they can select another type of boat. The boat should have enough space at the stern to fit a motor on the back. Ask them to remember different parts of a boat and to add those features into their model boat. Ask them to think about ways to make this boat more “streamlined” so that it runs fast with an electric motor.
This class we will have Ms. Lena come teach the students! Team teaching makes effective learning.

Inquiry question: What shape of your boat would make it run faster and float better?
This foreshadows future classes: we will learn about the concept of streamlining shapes of boats and buoyancy.
